The situation in Thailand is slowly normalizing, affecting the tourism in a positive way

It’s been around two months since the military took power in Thailand and the world witnessed some unpleasant scenes of empty streets and worried faces in the land of smiles. Probably the most unpopular measure implemented by the military authorities was the curfew. Because of the curfew and the whole political situation the number of tourists in Thailand has significantly dropped resulting in cancelation of many booked rooms and tourist arrangements.

However, the chaotic scenes are now gone and turns are slowly getting back to normal. Ten days ago the military has decided to eliminate the orders for curfew in several popular tourist destinations in Thailand like (Phuket Island, Koh Samui etc.) and few other regions where there were no protests and incidents in the past year. These measures had instant effect because the tourist workers were faced with decreased number of customers, especially those working in the nightlife industry (in the past month the nightlife was practically nonexistent because of the curfew that took place between 10 PM and 5 AM). Since there were no incidents once the curfew was lifted the military decided to completely lift the curfew in all regions. This means that the tourists can now completely enjoy the beauties of Thailand once again. The reason for this newest measure of the authorities is that the threat of violence is gone according to them. However the political protests and gathering are still banned and the increased presence of military personnel in all the major cities and infrastructural objects is visible.

Latest news suggests that the new elections can take place as early as August and that’s certainly good news for tourism as it is for the whole society. The hopes are that the new elections will finally bring some changes and resolution to the 5 year long political crisis in Thailand. A possible positive outcome will probably affect  the economy and tourism in a positive way and Thailand will find a way to exploit all of its natural beauties in a better way!

the pentagon cancelled the military drill

Thailand news

Latest news from Thailand states that the pentagon cancelled the military drill early on Saturday. The Pentagon is working towards restoring the Southeast Asian country’s democracy. It has even cancelled three of its collaboration with the Royal Thai Armed Forces and has also propagated that there are high chances that the U.S military relations would be hampered with Thailand until the democracy is restored.

Rear Adm. John Kirby, the press secretary of Pentagon stated in the news that Thailand would need to reconsider its military relations with the U.S. for the sake of its democracy.

In an attempt to neutralize potential opposition and critics several activists, journalists and academic professionals surrendered themselves and gave in to the military authorities.

Just after a few days of the army seizing power in Thailand’s first every coup in about 8 years, it faced a lot of opposition and protests.

The Senate absorbed its legislative powers and left the institution.

The annual naval exercise consisted of more than 700 U.S. troops that also included ships, sailors, marines and the aircraft.

Kirby, in a news interview stated that they request the Royal Thai Armed Forces to take their next move forward only if it is in the best interest of the country, abiding by the regulations and preserving the democratic rights of its people.

More than 100 people that include some of the top politicians have been detained. The army spokesperson swears that they are all treated very well with no compromise given the situation.

Many military mediator and analysts argue that this is not an attempt of preserving democracy but authoritarianism in its crudest form.

The lasted news from BangkokPost ,  Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), on Monday promised to alleviate the people’s hardships, with rice farmers high on the list, and then return the country to democracy, but would neither confirm nor deny if he would be interim prime minister.

He was speaking afterattending a ceremony to receive the royal command officially appointing himthe head of the coup junta’s NCPO atarmy headquarters in Bangkok onMonday morning.

Gen Prayuth stressed his belief that the NCPOhad to take control of national administration to solve national problems. He said Thailand had faced serious problems for nine years and the people had suffered from the political situation and the violence over thepast six months.
